I stumbled upon Ashley Madison much like everyone else. After being married for 10 years and hitting a wall in my relationship, I figured why not find something extra on the side Trust me, I’ve put in the effort to fix things, but at some point, it feels pointless to keep asking for intimacy. Since I travel frequently for work between Sydney and Melbourne, it seemed like a good opportunity to try something new while I’m away from home.
I tried Ashley Madison while traveling for work between Sydney and Melbourne
Summary: I tried Ashley Madison while traveling for work between Sydney and Melbourne, but found very few active users and frustrating paywalls just to read messages. The site’s pricing was high, and they hit me with sneaky subscription charges. Now, I’m using Sasha7, which seems (for now) more affordable and transparent.
Initially, I thought Ashley Madison would be the perfect platform for those nights spent in hotel rooms in Melbourne and Sydney. But wow, I was wrong! The number of women actually active on the site is shockingly low. With all the hype surrounding Ashley Madison, I assumed it would have the largest user base. Turns out, a lot of the profiles seem abandoned or just plain inactive.
One thing that really got me was how they don’t let you read messages unless you pay for it. Like, really? I get paying for certain features, but it feels pretty shady to not even allow you to read a simple message someone sends. It’s as if the whole system is set up to trap you into paying.
Of course, I eventually caved and paid to read one message. It was from a woman in Sydney, and the pricing was ridiculous. I ended up spending $85 plus an extra $15 for something called a “mobile access fee.” I mean, seriously? How is that even a thing in 2024? And just so we’re clear, that $100 doesn’t even get you a subscription — just a limited number of credits to start conversations. It barely lets you talk to a handful of people before having to pay again.
So, after shelling out all that cash, what do I get? A message that simply said, “hi.” And, of course, no response when I replied.
Oh, and the sneaky charges don’t stop there. I noticed I kept getting billed monthly even though I wasn’t purchasing more credits. After digging into it, I found out there’s this “Member Initiated Contact” fee — basically a $29.99/month charge that they pre-select for you during checkout. The idea is that it saves you a few credits if someone reaches out to you first. I didn’t even realize I’d been opted into this for months until I came across a blog post from Sasha7 (their competitor).

Speaking of Sasha7, I’ve been giving them a shot now, and honestly, I wish I’d found them first. They’re half the price of Ashley Madison and, most importantly, they let you read your messages before you decide to pay. They’ve also got disappearing photos and voice notes, which, as someone who’s been married for a while, is pretty cool. Fun fact: apparently, women really dig voice notes — especially if you’ve got a deep voice, which I never thought would be a thing.
So far, Sasha7 seems to have a decent user base, especially in bigger cities like Melbourne and Sydney. I’ve already exchanged contact info with two women, and I even met one for a drink at my hotel the last time I was in Melbourne. That didn’t go as planned though — she looked about 15 kilos heavier than her photos. But hey, that’s life, right?
I’ve got higher hopes for the other girl. She’s a “hotwife” (new term for me) whose husband is totally in on it, so sharing her socials was easy. She seems to actually look like her photos too, but I guess I’ll find out when we meet up in Sydney next week.
